Getting it
Where do I get it?
On the App Store, for free: get Motive here. You sign in with your uni email, and there's no password to remember.
Does it cost anything?
No. It's free for students and free for societies. There's no paid tier, and no plan to charge societies to be listed.
Who can sign up?
Students with an email from a uni where Motive is live. If that isn't you, an event's link still works: open it and sign up to an open event on the web with your name and email.
Not on an iPhone?
Open an event's link in any browser and sign up there. You don't need the app for an open event.
Going to events
Do I need my society to be on it?
No. Your uni's societies are already listed, so you can follow yours today. Their events show up once the committee starts posting, so if they haven't yet, send them this.
What happens if it's full?
Join the waitlist. When someone drops out you move up on your own, and you get a notification saying so.
Can I bring someone who isn't on Motive?
Send them the event's link. They can sign up on the web with their name and email, unless the event is for members only.
Does this replace our group chat?
No, and it isn't trying to. It replaces events that only exist as a story and then vanish. Your group chat keeps doing what it's good at.
Friends and privacy
Who can see that I'm going?
The society running the event sees everyone who signed up. Everyone else sees a number, and your friends see your name.
How do I add friends?
Scan their friend code when you're together, or send them a link. There's no search, so nobody can find you by name.
Can I hide an event from friends?
Yes, any event or society. Faith, political and cultural societies stay hidden from friends until you choose to show them.
For societies
Is our society already on it?
Probably: we listed every society on the union's list. Nobody runs it until a committee member claims it, so email us and we'll make you its admin.
What does it cost a society?
Nothing. There's no fee to be listed, to post events or to use the dashboard.
Do we have to stop posting on Instagram?
No. Motive is one more place for your events, one that doesn't expire and reaches students who don't follow you yet.
